The Education and Career Partnership (ECP) grant is being awarded throughout Georgia in order to meet the new content and focus requirements of the reauthorized Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006. The 2006 Perkins Act focuses on several themes including increased accountability for results, enhanced coordination within the Career Technical Education system, stronger academic and technical course integration, stronger connections between secondary and post secondary education and stronger links to business and industry. Purpose

The Swainsboro Technical College Area Education and Career Partnership will serve to support local career and technical education programs. Local area partners will develop, expand, and promote programs of study (Peach State Pathways) which are composed of coherent, articulated sequences of rigorous academic and career related courses commencing in ninth grade and leading students to either an industry-recognized certificate and/or licensure, associate and/or higher college degree, and successful employment.

Career Pathway

The Swainsboro Area ECP will initially focus on the development of a Therapeutic Services: Nursing career pathway in the Healthcare Science program concentration area. Small Business Development and Agriscience will be discussed in the near future. Career Pathway development will be accomplished through partner assessments workshops and the development of an ECP information portal. Career Pathway presentations and information will be made available to parents and students either by downloading the information from the internet portal, or by scheduling an in-person presentation. Post secondary Credit opportunities related to pathways are developed and will be promoted. Swainsboro Technical College will provide instructors to teach dual credit courses that can lead to a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Exit points in this pathway include Certified Nursing Assistant and Phlebotomist. Students will have opportunities to learn about career pathways through college career days, classroom presentations, job shadowing, and printed materials disseminated by the ECP Manager, school counselors, graduation coaches, teachers, etc.
